At a Glance

Welcome to the cradle of civilization—South Africa—an ancient land with a budding democracy and an Apartheid system overthrown. Your journey will take you to some amazing places: to Sterkfontein Caves, where scientists have discovered many hominid fossils dating back more than four million years and Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela lived as a political prisoner. Visit the Cape of Good Hope, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans merge and then head off on safari to Kruger National Park, a wildlife preserve teeming with big game and magnificent scenery. In 12 unforgettable days, you’ll come face to face with a great white shark, spend three nights in a bush camp, goof off with some baby leopards, take open-vehicle safari drives through the bush, assist a paleontologist sort through millions years old fossils, join a drum circle, and master the fauna and flora of the South African bushveld. It’s a whirlwind trip. Prepare for adventure.
